Trofeo Alfredo Binda is a Women’s WorldTour classic taking place on Sunday 17th March with riders departing from Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca and finishing around Cittiglio.

Named after legendary Italian cyclist Alfredo Binda – winner of five Giros d’Italia, two Milan-San Remos, four Il Lombardias and three World Championships – who was from Cittiglio, it’s the biggest race on the women’s calendar that doesn’t have a men’s equivalent and one of the longest running women’s races having started in 1974.

It’s hotly contested, with its list of previous winners a who’s who of the peloton’s best riders, and it can be won by just about any kind of rider from sprinter to climber with its hilly 140km parcours offering a springboard for attacks and softening the legs of the fastest finishers.

The 2023 race was won by Shirin van Anrooij (Lidl-Trek) who attacked solo for victory, with teammate Elisa Balsamo and FDJ-Suez’s Vittoria Guazzini completing the podium.

Trofeo Alfredo Binda 2024: Route and profile

The race takes place right at the far north of Italy, with the Swiss border only about 20km north of Maccagno. The first part of the route takes riders along the very picturesque Lake Maggiore before cutting inland towards the finish circuit around Cittiglio.

It’s a hilly race and that finishing circuit does represent a worthy challenge to the WorldTour’s best with plenty of opportunities to attack on the Casale and Orino climbs repeated in the back half of the day. The 2024 edition includes an extra lap on the final circuit in Cittiglio.

Trofeo Alfredo Binda 2024: How to watch

Trofeo Alfredo Binda 2024 will be available to watch in the UK on Discovery+ for £6.99 per month with the basic package, which includes cycling and all other Eurosport programmes. It will also be shown on the TV channel Eurosport 2 in the UK.

If it’s not being shown in your country, you may be able to watch coverage using a VPN – Virtual Private Network – which allows users to mask their IP address and watch geo-blocked content, provided they don’t need to pay for a subscription. This is also helpful for watching paid-for coverage while travelling abroad in countries without access.

One such example is ExpressVPN, which is very well reviewed, helps users to find way to watch cycling without having to pay for broadcasters services, and costs £5.36 per month, with three months free. Other options include NordVPN, Surfshark and Kapersky.
